West Norfolk Swimming Club’s young swimmers put together a weekend of strong performances on the 21st and 22nd May in order to wrap up the award for Top Club at the Warwick Thompson gala organised by Norfolk ASA.

Named for the well loved commentator who was a fixture at competitions across the county for so many years, the event aims to provide an opportunity to compete on the county stage for swimmers in the early stages of their careers who may not have qualified for the Norfolk Championships in February.

Facing competition from the City of Norwich; Diss Otters; Great Yarmouth; North Norfolk Vikings; Norwich Swan and Thetford Dolphins, West Norfolk’s 43 member strong team took home medals and personal bests galore from the two days of racing at the Thetford Waterworld.

With West Norfolk at the top of the leaderboard at the end of Sunday afternoon, twelve year old Ruby Jackson and thirteen year old Oliver Norris were granted the honour of collecting the trophy from former Norfolk ASA President Paul Kendall.

West Norfolk Coach Oliver Kenny was pleased with the performance of his squad, remarking “The Warwick Thompson Gala was an excellent development opportunity for our young swimmers, which I was pleased to see them cease with both hands”.

“The racing experience gained has helped them grow their confidence for future competitions and taught them valuable lessons which they can apply going forward”.
