{"id":283125,"date":"2020-02-08T21:45:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-08T21:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.swimmanager.co.uk\/westnorfolk\/2020\/02\/08\/swimarathon-update-wnsc-cover-48km-in-the-water-and-raise-over-1200-on-the-way\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T04:16:31","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T03:16:31","slug":"swimarathon-update-wnsc-cover-48km-in-the-water-and-raise-over-1200-on-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.swimmanager.co.uk\/westnorfolk\/2020\/02\/08\/swimarathon-update-wnsc-cover-48km-in-the-water-and-raise-over-1200-on-the-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Swimarathon&#8230;..update WNSC cover 48km in the water and raise over \u00a31200 on the way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Norfolk Swimming Club entered 8 teams to the 2020 Kings Lynn Rotary Club Swimarathon held at the Alive St James pool between noon and 8pm on Saturday 9th February.<br \/>\nOverall 48 teams representing a variety of organisations, work places and  group of friends took part, all helping to raise funds towards the rotary club target of \u00a320,000. <br \/>\nThe event which was primarily raising funds for two deserving local charities, The Lavender Hill Mob, (www.lhmtc.co.uk) which provides opportunities for anyone, regardless of age, experience or ability in musical theatre, and mental health charity, WEST NORFOLK MIND (www.westnorfolkmind.org.uk)<br \/>\nIn the water, teams competed to complete the most lengths in their allotted 55 minute session, with swimmers taking it in turns to swim one at a time for the first 50 minutes, rounded off with all team members swimming simultaneously for the last five minutes.  <br \/>\nTogether the WNSC racked up over 48km, an average of 1km each.<br \/>\nSix of the #PURPLEARMY teams took over all six lanes of the pool for the last session, which saw some fierce competition. Team \u2018STOP WATCHING ITS NOT FUNNY\u2019 were the team that everyone else wanted to beat, as it comprised a number of the clubs coaches, including a rare appearance in the pool by Head Coach Sarah Vanderloo.<br \/>\n The announcer reported the tallies of lengths completed, drawing cheering from swimmers and spectators alike. The water boiled during the final five minute free for all, with all teams looking to add to their scores, but I the end it was \u2018BIG BOYS TEAM\u2019  who completed the most lengths in the 55 minutes, total of 314, covering a distance of 7.8km.
