Following the British Swimming Championships in July, West Norfolk Swimming Club were back in action at Ponds Forge, Sheffield for the Swim England National Championships Friday 5th and Monday 8th August.
Sarah O’Brien was the headline maker, as she was crowned Swim England 200 Meter Summer National Champion on the Sunday Evening.
O’Brien kickstarted the day with a personal best swim of 2 minutes 41.99 seconds, dipping under the 2 minutes 42 mark for the first time to qualify for the final.
Come the final, she made it two personal best swims in the same day, with a controlled swim and a blistering final 50 meters as she touched the wall in a time of 2 minutes 41.26 seconds to grab the gold medal and end her season on a well deserved high.
Nathan Wells contested both the 100 and 200 Meter Freestyle events. The 100 Meters saw Wells progress through the heats in a time of 52.90 seconds before setting a season’s best time of 52.59 in the final as he finished in 4th place.
The 200 meter event saw Wells post a time of 1 minute 57.08 seconds in the heats, before lowering it to a season’s best 1 minute 54.37 in the final as he swam his way to a silver medal.
Freddie Laws had the honour of being the final swimmer in the pool for the club’s 2021-22 season, swimming a 30.28 second 50 Meter Breaststroke to progress through to Monday evening’s final as the youngest qualifier where he swam a time of 30.57.
With the action in the pool competed, the club has one last day of action in the waters of Thryburgh Country Park, Rotherham as Esmie Kidman, Wiktoria Marcinek and Jamie Wilson compete in the National Open Water Championships on Wednesday 10th August.
