It was a great first swim meet of the season for some West Norfolk swimmers on Saturday 29th September & Sunday 1st October at Dereham Leisure Centre.
WNSC were awarded with trophies for Top Boy (Den Vojevoda), Top Girl (Valeria Soldatihhina) and Top Club for the most points scored.
Vojevoda won 6 Golds for 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m fly, 200m IM, 50m freestyle and 100 butterfly and 3 Silver for 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle.
Soldatihhina was victorious across all her races, gaining Gold and achieving personal bests throughout.
The atmosphere poolside was described as ‘buzzing’ as 51 members supported each other for the day and a half meet.
Among the swimmers were members from the Masters squad. Philip Baxter (48) achieved Silver medals in the over 16’s for 200m breaststroke & 50m backstroke and Bronze for 100m backstroke & 200m IM. He was swimming alongside his son Jack Baxter (9) who won 2 Golds for 50m butterfly & 200m breaststroke and 2 Silver for 50m breaststroke & 200m backstroke.
Other Master swimmers also swimming at the meet with their own children were Will Wakefield (34) with son Freddie (11) who took Gold for 100m butterfly.
Lucy Chadderton was close to medalling, placing 4th in the over 16s for 200m freestyle whilst daughter Nellie (10) took home 2 Silver for 200m freestyle & 200m IM and 4 Bronze for 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m & 100m freestyle. Younger daughter Mabelle (9) also achieved a Bronze for 50m backstroke. Not many children can say they are joined in the pool by their parents.
Masters swimmers Emma Simmonds (50) swam well to achieve 4th place for 100m butterfly and Samuel Rose (20) topped the leaderboard with 3 Golds for 50m butterfly, 100m & 200m backstroke, 2 Silver for 100m butterfly & 200m IM and 3 Bronze for the 3 freestyle races.
Other outstanding results from the weekend were 13 year olds Ashton Busby and Arabella Bishop, both achieving 9 medals. Busby medalled all his races; 5 Golds for 200m, 100m & 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke & 200m freestyle and 4 Silver for 100m & 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke & 200m IM.
Bishop won 5 Silver for 50m, 100m & 200m breaststroke, 200m butterfly & 200m backstroke and Bronze for 50m & 100m backstroke, 200m IM and 100m butterfly.
Harry Clark and Lexie Foster, both aged 11, took 7 medals each, as did Andrej Talapins (12).
Clarke took home 3 Golds for 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke and 4 Silver for 50m & 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke & 200m freestyle.
Talapins’ 50m butterfly and 200m IM races gained him Golds. Silver for 100m breaststroke & backstroke and 3 Bronze for 50m & 100m breaststroke & 50m freestyle.
Erin Lovelock (12) medalled all her 5 events which included her winning Gold for 100m & 200m butterfly.
Other medal winners were David Roczniak (13), Daisy Covell (13), Samuel Liddel (12), Martha More (9), Adam Jackson (13) and Joshua Norris (10).
