West Norfolk Swimming Club claimed the 2nd team place at the Warwick Thompson Memorial Gala in Thetford, with many of the swimmers taking part in their very first competition!
Arabella Bishop (15 years) led the way with 10 medal places and 5 PBs, taking Gold in the female 50 & 100m Fly and 50 & 200m Breast events while Daisy Covell, in the same age group, brought home 7 medals and 5 PBs, clinching Gold in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke. Cory Hill and David Roczniak both saw success in the 15 years male category, with Hill swimming to victory in five of his 8 medal winning performances, bringing home Gold in the 200 IM, 50 & 100m Fly (PBs) and 100 & 200m Breast (PBs)
events while Roczniak swam to Gold in the 50 & 200m (PB) Freestyle, 200m Backstroke (PB) and 200m Fly (PB) races
Andrej Taplin (15) took home a Gold medal and PB time for the 15 years male 100m Backstroke. 10 year old Sonny Roberts, gained personal best times in all of his seven races, bringing home a 6 medal haul across all strokes: 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze. William Bradney (10) achieved 3 PB times, coming in in second place in the 50m Fly. In the same age group Oliver Anderson achieved PBs in both his races while Arlo Brown clinched a PB in his 50m Freestyle event. Also competing in this youngest age group
were the girls: Lily Nell, who brought home 2 medals, both in PB times, including a Gold for her 50m Butterfly, Ellie Kitt earning a Silver and Bronze medal, both in PB times and Ella Smith who swam PB times in all three of her events.
Other Gold medals were achieved by Amelia Rodgers (12 years), who achieved PB times in all ten of her races, bringing home 5 medals: 3 Gold and 2 Bronze. Lacey Waterson in the same age group, also achieved PBs in all of her races with a Gold and Silver medal included, while Joseph Cook swam his two races with PBs, bringing home a Gold and Bronze medal in the 11 year age group. Anwen Jones (11) brought home 2PBs and a medal in every colour across her three races. Emma Wilson, also in the 11 year
age category, swam to victory with a PB time in the 100m Individual Medley and took Silver place in the 200m Butterfly, while Martha More (11) clinched the Gold medal place in the same race. Teddy Roberts (14) took Gold in a PB time for his 200m Individual Medley while Edward Murray (17) completed the club’s Gold medal haul with his 200m Freestyle swim, in another PB time!
Eliza-Grace Codling (a Silver and Bronze), Charlie Bradford (Silver) and Thomas Murray (Silver) completed West Norfolk’s medal tally, with Brooke Newson clinching a final PB in her 11 year 50 Freestyle race.
