Four of West Norfolk Swimming Club’s swimmers were in action at the British Swimming Summer Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, between the 23rd and 28th July.

Nathan Wells had a busy programme, contesting five individual events as well as the 4 x 100 Metre Medley Relay.

Wells kicked his, and West Norfolk’s, week with the 50M Backstroke – swimming a strong race to come home in a time just one hundredth of a second outside his lifetime best time of 26.54 seconds.

The 100M Backstroke came the following day, with a second solid swim seeing Wells clock a time of 57.73 seconds.

A third swim in as many days saw Wells take on the 400M Individual Medley on Tuesday morning – narrowly missing out a season’s best time with a swim of 4 minutes 39.87 seconds.

Freddie Laws took to the pool on Wednesday, racing the 200M Breaststroke in a time of 2 minutes 28.82 seconds.

Thursday saw Wells contest the 200M Individual Medley, achieving a time of 2 minutes 8.32 seconds before his final individual race, a 2 minutes 8.69 second 200M Backstroke on Friday Morning.

Friday afternoon saw Wells and Laws joined by Daniel Grimmer – making his debut in national level competition – and Finlay Ryan for the aforementioned 4 x 100 Medley Relay.

Wells swam the opening backstroke leg in 57.35 seconds, bettering his time from earlier in the week, before handing over to Laws who completed the Breaststroke leg in 1 minute 6.42 seconds.

Grimmer took over for the Butterfly and a solid performance of 1 minute 2.33 seconds before Ryan brang West Norfolk home with a 53.91 second 100M Freestyle to finish off West Norfolk’s championships.

West Norfolk Swimming Club will return to the pool at Ponds Forge from the 2nd to the 6th of August for the Swim England National Summer Meet.
