West Norfolk Swimming Club’s 2021-22 season came to a close on Wednesday 10th August with the National Open Water Championships at Thryburgh Country Park in Rotherham.
The club had three representatives in Jamie Wilson; Wiktoria Marcinek and Esmie Kidman who had all qualified for the event courtesy of their performances at the East Region Championships at Whitlingham Country Park last month.
Thirteen year old Jamie Wilson, a dual-registered swimmer with Wisbech SC, came into the 2 KM race off the back of a dominant swim at Whitlingham which saw him crowned East Region Champion.
Competing in a nineteen-strong field on the national stage, Wilson swam a full forty seconds faster than he had one month ago, to come home in ninth place in a time of 27 minutes 32.017 seconds and end his season on a high.
Wiktoria Marcinek contested the 14 year old girls’ 3 KM race, having finished as runner-up in the regional contest one month prior.
Marcinek put in a performance almost 70 full seconds faster than her East Region swim with a time of 46 minutes and 16.640 seconds to place eighteenth of twenty-one swimmers.
Esmie Kidman faced the longest distance of the West Norfolk contingent, taking the start of the sixteen year old girls’ 5 KM race as the reigning East Region Champion.
Kidman completed the race in a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 25 seconds to place eleventh of the nineteen competitors and top off another successful season.
