A group of 16 young swimmers from West Norfolk Swimming Club travelled to the UEA Sportspark in Norwich on Saturday 22nd of October for the Norwich Swan Development Gala.

For some swimmers it was their first ever gala, so there were lots of nerves but also plenty of excitement to feel the buzz of racing.

Once underway the team set precedence in lane three leading the pack in many races, achieving mostly top three rankings throughout.

Eight year old Jack Baxter looked strong from the outset powering through on his breaststroke taking second place in his heat and winning first place in his age group. Overall, he achieved four medals for four 50m races winning one silver and three golds.

Martha More, also attending her first ever gala, swam both her 50m races in the eight year olds age in top form, gaining personal bests and winning gold for backstroke and a silver for Freestyle.

10 year old Matilda Myers dominated her heats throughout, almost taking home a clean sweep of golds for her five races, still achieving a bronze for 50m butterfly.

Imposing a Personal Best for all their races and achieving a full house of medals were David Roczniak, Harriet Reeves, Jack Baxter, Juan Verdoes, Matilda Myers, Nellie Chadderton and Rejus Mazeika.

Two personal best times for Ayra Richardson saw her bring home her final swim of the evening winning a silver in 100m Freestyle in the ten year old age group. Also representing the ten year old age group in the 100m freestyle and achieving an impressive personal best of 14 seconds was Lexi Foster.

Great gains in their races for Callum Wallace and personal bests for Neve Haddock and Isabelle Norris. Whilst Valarie Soldatihhina swam her heart out to gain two victories in the nine year old age group.

Not to be out-done Den Volevoda, also age nine, showed dedication throughout to win two golds and one silver.

Eleven year old Teddy Roberts held his own in all his races bringing away two silver medals.
