West Norfolk Swimming Club had a very successful away meet at Ipswich Swimming Club’s “Spooktacular” Open Meet over the Halloween weekend, racking up a total of 94 medals, all under the guidance of head coach Sarah Vanderloo.
15 year old Daniel Grimmer was the biggest contributor, claiming no fewer than 9 medals over the weekend. Daniel secured 4 silvers in the 100M Backstroke, 100M Freestylestyle, 200M Butterfly, 200M IM, and 5 bronze – 50M Butterfly, 100M IM, 100M Butterfly, 200M Freestyle and 400M Freestyle.
14 year olds Nathan Yeaman and Erin Woodrow and 13 year old Jamie Wilson all brought home 8 medals each.
Erin brought home a hat-trick of victories in the Backstroke with silvers in the 50 and 200 Metre events and a gold in the 100 Metres. Elsewhere, Woodrow also brought home another 5 medals; golds in the 100M IM, 200M IM and 100M Freestyle, silver in 50M Freestyle and bronze in the 200M Freestyle.
Nathan was also in fine form clocking up 3 golds in the 200M IM, 200M Breaststroke and 400M Freestyle, 3 silver medals in the 50M Backstroke, 100M Backstroke, 100M IM and 2 bronze in the 50M Butterfly and 200M Backstroke.
Whilst Jamie’s medal haul included 1 gold in the 400M Freestyle, 4 silvers – 200M Freestyle, 200M Butterfly, 100M Butterfly, 50M Backstroke, and 3 bronze 100M Backstroke, 50M Freestyle and 200M Backstroke.
15 year old Rhys Burrell added to the medal tally, medalling in all 7 of his races. Rhys achieved 2 golds in the 50 and 100 Metre Breaststroke, 3 silvers in the 50M Freestyle, 50M Butterfly and 100M Butterfly, plus 2 bronze – 50M Backstroke and 100M Freestyle.
The new club captains added to medal haul also; 17 Year old Harvey Isle dominated all three Backstroke events with 1 gold and 2 silver; plus another gold in the 200M IM. Whilst 16 year old Abigail Nicholson secured a silver in the 50N Butterfly and 2 bronze in both 200M Butterfly and 50M Backstroke.
In the 10 year old category, Polly Anderson was on form and achieved 5 medals; Gold in the 100M Backstroke, and silver in the 50M Freestyle, 50M Backstroke, 100M Freestyle and 100M Butterfly.
11 year old Olivia Bradford brought home the gold in the 200M Butterfly whilst achieving a smashing new personal best time.
12 year old Thomas Baxter secured 5 top 3 finishes – silver in the 50, 100 and 200 Metre Breaststroke and the 200M IM, plus a bronze in the 200M Freestyle. Alex Pattison achieved 3 bronze medals in the 100M Butterfly, Breaststroke and IM events. Elsewhere in the age group, Florence Collison, Milly Johnson, and Ruby Jackson all brought home a medal each.
13 year old Eloise Collins brought home a silver and a bronze. In the 200M Breaststroke and 100M Breaststroke respectively.
14 year old Kristina Sutika-Totlebena dominated all of the Breaststroke events, claiming 2 golds and a silver. Wiktoria Marcinek and Zoe Wilson added to the medal table with 2 medals each. Whilst Kye Harrington secured a gold with a new PB in the 200 Butterfly.
15 year old Elyn Lauder won 4 medals; 2 gold; 200M Butterfly and 400M Freestyle and 2 silver; 100M Butterfly and 200M Freestyle. Chloe Bellamy achieving a trio of bronze medals – 100M and 200 M Backstroke and 200M Butterfly and Joshua Parker securing a bronze in the 100M Backstroke.
In the 16 year old category Nedas Tkacenko won 4 medals; silver in the 200M Breaststroke and a trio of bronze in the 100M Backstroke, 100M IM and 400M Freestyle. Securing 3 silver medals was Esmie Kidman, 200M Freestyle, 200M Butterfly and 400M Freestyle. Whilst Alex Wilson secured 2 bronze medals in the 200 Breaststroke and 200M IM. Libby Collins and Sophie Doig also secured a bronze medal each.
18 year old Alex Bryan competed the medal haul for WNSC with a silver in the 200M IM and bronze in the 200M Backstroke.
On top of all the medals won over the weekend, the rest of the squad secured many new personal best times along with lots of county qualifying times being achieved, finishing up a very successful meet all round for the Purple Army.
